Doris Josephine (Scudder) Chase

Doris Josephine (Scudder) Chase, 90, of Florence, IN, passed away on Thursday, February 26th, 2026 at her home. Doris was born in Switzerland County, IN on June 9th, 1935, a daughter of the late Velma (Peelman) Scudder and Churchill Scudder. Doris was a lifelong resident of Switzerland County and a 1953 graduate of Vevay High School. Doris married Paul Veron Chase on April 10, 1954. Doris and Paul were married nearly 59 years until his passing on February 15th, 2013. Doris retired from the Vevay Shoe Factory where she worked for over 20 years. She enjoyed attending the Patriot First Baptist Church whenever she was able. Doris loved getting together with her many close friends for meals, birthday celebrations, playing bingo or just enjoying each other's company. Her grandchildren and great grandchildren loved their "mam" dearly. They brought her the greatest joy and she looked forward to every moment spent with them.

Doris is  survived by her daughter, Debbie Vann (Bud), of Vevay, IN;  by her grandchildren: Paul David Humphrey, Amanda Vann and Heather Hewitt; by her great grandchildren: Laura Humphrey, Jonathan Humphrey, Peyton Vann and Weston Bolton; by her step grandchildren: Rodney Vann, Rick Vann, Randy Vann and Rhonda Humphrey.  Doris is also survived by her two sisters, Pansy Covington, of East Enterprise, IN and Daisy Swanson, of Bennington, IN; by her son-in-law, Bruce Thies, of Florence, IN and by many other family members and a host of friends. Doris was preceded by her parents, Churchill Scudder and Velma (Peelman) Scudder Smith; by her husband, Paul Vernon Chase; by her daughter, Connie Jo Thies; by her brother, Jack Scudder; by her brothers-in-law, Carroll "Buddy" Swanson and Donald "Donnie" Covington and by her nephew, Harold "Joe" Covington.
 
Funeral services will be 1:00 PM, Monday, March 2nd, 2026 at Markland Funeral Home in Rising Sun, IN with Pastor Mike Jones officiating. Public Visitation will be held 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM on Monday, March 2nd at Markland Funeral Home. Burial will be at New Liberty Cemetery in East Enterprise, IN. Memorial donations may be made to the Keeping Pace Cancer Fund in c/o The Community Foundation of Switzerland County.
