Minnie Lee Stevens, age 89, passed away peacefully on February 24, surrounded by the love of her family. She is preceded in death by her parents Leroy and Mary Chowning as well as her late husband Bill Stevens. Minnie is survived by her two sisters, Rita Thompson and Darlene Montgomery. She was a mother to four children: twins Gerry and Kerri, daughter Merry, and son Jody. Minnie preferred to be called Mamie. She was known for her creativity. She enjoyed embroidering pieces by hand and baking elaborate and memorable birthday cakes. She was known for preparing wonderful home-cooked meals that brought her family together for the holidays. She loved bird watching and stargazing. She was a devoted mother who enjoyed spending time at home with her son Jody “Jodeman” Stevens. Mamie never met a stranger and had a gift for making everyone feel welcome. She was loved by her family and will be remembered for her unique spirited personality. She will be missed.
She is survived by her daughters, Kerri Dunaway and husband Bill and Merry Brown and husband Doug; by her sons, Gerry Robinson and Jody Stevens; by her sisters, Rita Thompson and Darlene Montgomery; by her grandchildren: Brandi Mack, Krystal Calamari, Tasha Carver and Heather Michelle. She was also a loving great grandmother to 10 great grandchildren.
A family celebration of Minnie's life will be held at a later date. Memorial donations may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital. Markland Funeral Home of Rising Sun, IN serving the family.
